Not long ago, I read The Things They Carried, by Tim O'Brien. It totally absorbed me. It was poignant, funny, mesmerizing, compelling, educational, and more. It's fiction, but it's plain that there is a lot of autobiographical information in there. You should definitely check it out.
This week, I watched Juno. Honestly, after about twenty minutes, I wasn't that interested. It was trying desperately hard to be cool. Some of the characters (particularly a cameo by one of the guys from The Office) just didn't seem to fit in. But it rebounded nicely and became a great film. The important characters behaved in ways that surprised me, and there were a couple of twists worthy of applause. The shot of a particular item, framed and mounted on a wall, was genius. As a bonus, the soundtrack was outstanding.
PS: My final signing for Holy Moly is this Saturday in Marble Falls. If you get a chance, come on out. Details are on my website.
